Opportunities at Conquest continue to grow

Several of our service users help with the horses.

As well as the chickens and rabbits we look after, 2 months ago My Day purchased 3 female pigmy goats called CC, Queenie and Gracie. They are very tame and everyone enjoys feeding the goats and taking them for walks.

What I get up to at Conquest when I volunteer by Olivia Faber Penny.

I help people on there horses when they feel scared I try to get them to talk about something they like doing if they find talking hard I make them look at things on the arena wall and when we are in the woods where we take the riders for short walks on the horses. there are some wooden animals to spot as they ride around. I groom which is when you brush the horses off so it does not get sore when you put the saddle or head collar on. And I clean the stables out which is where you remove all the poo and wee from the stable so it is nice and clean for the horses.

Other activities at Conquest include:

Work placements

Birds of prey

In the spring there were two courses run in Upcycling and Woodwork.

Contribution from Jon Bolton

We did up donated furniture using different techniques. Using different coloured paints and making things look old and restoring things to their original state. It felt really good to do the course something I had not done before. After the course I upcycled my own bedside cabinet by sanding it down repainting it and changing the handles.

In woodwork with the help of Shirley we have been making benches and planters for the craft fair. We are also making a big tray for the My Day garden shed to keep all our garden bits and bobs in. I have really enjoyed these practical courses and they are giving me confidence. I really like coming to My Day and doing different things and mixing with different people.

Coming soon: My Day Cafe

On September 24th My Day will be opening the cafe at Conquest. This will give students an opportunity to gain work experience, and support Conquest. All profits from the cafe are going to Conquest.
